Hello Glebe Community!
Have you seen everyone singing ‘We Are Australian’ on ABC TV? Or maybe you’ve seen another “gallery style video” of communities from around the world singing songs from their lounge room?
Well, thanks to The City of Sydney, it is now OUR TURN!
YOU are invited to be a part of the....drum roll..... “Glebe Community Covid Souvenir Sing!”
You don’t even need to sing to be a part of it; you can simply send in a picture of your favourite part of Glebe, a flower in your garden, a wave from your office/ classroom, or you could say “guwi/coo-ee” at the beginning of Good Dreaming, or you can click your fingers along to ‘Fever’ etc...
Everyone is encouraged and welcome to be a part of this Snapshot of Glebe at this time, in whatever way they would like to be. “Glebe” includes: Forest Lodge, Annandale, Camperdown, and Ultimo.
The very first image of the video will be the big tree at the end of Glebe Point Road, our faces will be leaves on the tree - breathing.
You could “just” be a leaf on the Damun/Big Tree.
This 7 mins backing track (with Pete Kohlhoff and I) is made up of 9 songs. You might already know some of them.
You don’t need to sing all the tracks - but of course you are most welcome and the more the better!
We start with Good Dreaming In our local indigenous language, and we end with We Are Australian, as seen on ABC Kids so I am hoping everyone will join in these two songs!
To participate
- Open the Backing Track for the Glebe Community COVID Souvenir Sing
- Play the track from beginning to end and breathe, sing/dance/garden/play along to as much/as little as you like, even if you don’t sing on all of it. Record yourself on your phone doing so. So you will need 2 devices - one to play, one to record eg, a phone, a tablet, a computer. Please record in landscape - place your phone sideways.
- Then email your recording to covidsouvenir@gmail.com subject title “my film”.
If you would like your name/child’s name included in the credits, please put in the correct spelling, and an OPTIONAL few words to describe you eg, Person A, shopkeeper; Person B GPS student; or Jo Brown, local firefighter etc.
Cyber safety
Please note that if you chose to have your / your child’s name on the film, it will NOT be published next to their image at any point in the film. It is advised that children, do NOT wear their school uniform, or be filmed in front of anything that identifies where they live.( EG, don’t film outside your house with the number showing.). Please note, by taking part in this project, you are giving your permission for your image to be used in the “Glebe Community and Friends Couch Choir Covid Souvenir Sing”.

Depending on your phone, IF you are having trouble sending it back to us, go to: WeTransfer.com and upload the video there, and use the same above address.
You do NOT need to have a We Transfer account to do this, and it is free. Also, if you would like to take part, and need us to come and film you, please email covidsouvenir@gmail.com and we’ll organise a time.
Deadline
Deadline is MONDAY 20th July, 2020. (First Monday after school holidays). NO VIDEOS can be accepted after this date.
Production and sharing
Feel free to dress up, or film yourselves with your favourite part of Glebe behind you! Or, from your work space (even if it isn’t in Glebe).
And, please feel free to pass this onto your friends, family and neighbours. The more the merrier. Please note, even though we are singing, this is NOT a performance video. This is about having fun, connecting as a community and to our environment at this time.

End of Project
When the video is edited, (by September 30, 2020), we will send you a link to see it. We will not be posting it on social media. When it is totally safe for everyone to come together again in person, EVERYONE is invited who is singing on the film, (and family/friends); to “Meet Again”, reconnect, celebrate and sing it LIVE together at t he Glebe Town Hall, (Tentative date, Saturday Oct 3, 2020, covid pending).
This mini film is a SNAPSHOT of our wonderful Glebe Community at this time of Covid19 - showing us our own strength, connection and resilience.
We are really looking forward to seeing and hearing all your faces and voices, the places you love in Glebe.
